Bookachef Case Study: From Paid Advertising to Organic Growth

When Bookachef came to Lemon Pip Digital in 2025, almost all of its digital marketing relied on paid advertising.

Bookachef connects hospitality businesses looking for temporary kitchen cover with experienced chefs looking for flexible work, giving the business two very different audiences to reach: chefs and hospitality businesses.

A considerable marketing budget was being spent on paid campaigns to reach both, but there wasn't a clear picture of which activity was actually working or where the budget was best spent.

At the same time, email marketing was largely sales focused. “Book a chef.” “Sign up today as a chef.” “Use the Bookachef platform to find a chef.” It worked when someone was ready to buy, but gave the wider audience very little reason to keep engaging with Bookachef.

We wanted to change that by building something more sustainable: an organic marketing strategy.

Building organic visibility

We started with search. The Bookachef website was optimised for SEO, with new location and service-led pages helping search engines understand what the business offers, who it serves and where it operates. We also began optimising content for the changing way people search, including the increasingly specific questions being asked through AI search platforms.

Alongside this, we introduced a weekly blog. Rather than creating content purely to target keywords, the focus was on becoming genuinely useful to both sides of the Bookachef audience.

For hospitality businesses, that meant industry news, staffing advice and timely information about what restaurant owners and operators needed to know.

For chefs, we introduced career advice, industry conversations and content around the realities of working in kitchens.

Each blog strengthened Bookachef's search presence while also giving us content for email and social media.

Search and social working together

Organic social became the other major part of the strategy. Facebook and Instagram focus more heavily on Bookachef's chef community, while LinkedIn speaks directly to restaurant owners and hospitality businesses.

We also brought the Bookachef team into the strategy, encouraging employees to become visible on social media, share their expertise and join relevant industry conversations and groups.

Switching off paid advertising

Within weeks of working with Lemon Pip Digital, Bookachef was able to switch off its paid advertising completely. Since then, organic website traffic and social media have continued to grow month on month, while Bookachef has continued expanding its team and coverage across the UK.

The goal was to build an organic presence that becomes stronger over time: searchable content, growing social communities, useful emails and multiple ways for chefs and hospitality businesses to discover Bookachef without paying for every click.
